Exploring the art of visual direction
About me
I’m Atalanta Shaw, a BA (Hons) Photography graduate from Nottingham Trent University. My work sits between fashion and art, using bold perspectives, stylised environments, and strong character-led imagery to create photographs that feel both cinematic and surreal.
Influenced by the theatrical storytelling of Tim Walker and the provocative glamour of Helmut Newton, I’m drawn to images that play with scale, attitude, and atmosphere. Whether through exaggerated angles, unexpected locations, or striking styling, my work explores how fashion can transform everyday spaces into something strange, dramatic, and narrative-driven.
I approach photography as a way of building small visual worlds. Each image is designed to feel like a fragment of a larger story — where style, character, and environment combine to create a moment that is both constructed and instinctive. My work often experiments with perspective and composition to challenge how fashion is usually presented, pushing it toward something more playful, surreal, and expressive.
Based in Nottingham, I aspire to collaborate with publications and creative studios that champion bold visual storytelling, including i-D and Mother London.
My style? Narrative. Stylised. Fashion.
I want to create images that feel imaginative, unexpected, and visually unforgettable.
